Middle School Exploratory Program
By Rabbi Ronnie Halibard, Middle School Coordinator

This year, we have been able to build our Exploratory Program tremendously. Such growth is only possible, of course, due to the volunteering of many members of our faculty, grandparents and friends of Yeshivat Rambam. This trimester we must again show appreciation to all these wonderful people. Here follows a full list of all the options that were open to our students, with the intent of them gaining from this additional educational experience.

  • Jewish Needlework with Mrs. Rena Rotenberg - an ancient art dating back to the time of the Mishkan. Students learn how to create a Jewish heirloom using a variety of embroidery stitches.
    • Understanding Baseball with Coach Terry Truax, Sports Director - students learn about the game, how it developed into a national sport and the plays that make it so special.
    • Chazanut with Cantor Rosenblatt - students learn basic Chazanut skills and Nusach HaTefillah, under the direction of a professional cantor.
    • Photo Darkroom with Mrs. Jessica Golomb - students are introduced to photographic theory and learn to develop and process their own film. Then they will print black and white contacts and photos.
    • Music with Mr. Matthew Elky - Group lessons for band instruments.
    • Chess with Mr. Wolf Rotenberg - students compete in this ancient board game under instruction and coaching.

  • Theatre Arts with Mrs. Mary Lou Grout - exploring basic skills of theatre production and acting under direction of an expert drama teacher.
  • Art 3D Design with Morah Elaine Brandes - working with paper mache, paper and sculpted clay.
  • Sign Language with Mrs. Connie Friedman - learning about deafness, deaf culture and how deaf people cope in a world of sound, in addition to finger spelling, survival signs and American Sign Language.
  • Choir for Girls with Ms. Chavie Haber - enjoying group singing.
  • Tall Tales with Mr. Paul Henderson - relating interesting and stimulating stories that are potentially true.

We thank all these teachers, and welcome aboard Ms. Haber and Mr. Henderson who have both introduced new options into our system.
