Yasher Koach to our High School students – Dr. Shloush, Yeshivat Rambam Head of School, was pleased to receive these two emails recently: _________________________________ Dear Dr. Shloush: I wanted to bring to your attention the wonderful work that several Rambam students are doing at Levindale for the past two years. Students Michael Gnatt, Moshe Lehmann, Ben Schwartz, and Ariel Trink are regularly coming to Levindale to assist me in leading the Sabbath and Yom Tov minyan. This responsibility requires skills in laining, davening, and interacting with the elderly population. I am sure that their success is in large part due to the Rambam education that they are receiving. As several of the fellows are graduating this year, I would like to make others aware of this excellent opportunity to perform community service and fulfill the mitzvah of "hadatra pnei zakein" (and to make a little financial compensation). Those interested in helping out at Levindale for next year (perhaps as early as after Pesach) should contact me at 410-601-2357. Thank you for your support! Rabbi Jeffrey Orkin _________________________________ Dr. Shloush: I wanted to take the opportunity to recognize one of your students for something he did this past Shabbat. This Shabbat, I had the occasion to fill in for Rabbi Jeffrey Orkin, the Chaplain at Levindale, to run the davening, etc. At 8:30 that morning, I got word that the assigned Baal Koreh got sick, leaving us without anyone prepared. One of the regular assistants is Michael Gnatt who helps with the davening and with transporting the residents as part of his community service. When I informed him of our dilemma, he took the initiative to offer to do the laining. The laining was not easy this week and he did an admirable job considering the circumstances and zero notice. Michael rose to the occasion and took on this responsibility while at the same time did not miss a beat in assisting the residents. You are fortunate to have students such as Michael. Elly Lasson |
